"We're talking about legacy, you’re talking about upgrading toilets as a result of this."

Toilet Matters

There seems to be a degree of confusion in the media over reports that, because there will be a shortage of portaloos in 2012 (all loos are being requisitioned for the London Olympics), Glastonbury 2012 will be cancelled.

However, Michael Eavis (the organiser of Glastonbury) has denied reports that the cancellation is due to the portaloo shortage. He stated that the cancellation is in fact due to the shortage of police, as they will be tied up by covering the the London Olympics.

"Irresponsible" Pubs To Be Shut

Cllr Colin Barrow, leader of Westminster City Council, has warned that "irresponsible" pubs will be shut in the run up to the 2012 Olympics.

Cllr Barrow has also threatened to find out which venues have served drunks.

Could he define exactly what constitutes "drunk" and "irresponsible"?

In the event the 2012 Olympics actually happens, and London accommodates millions of sports fans, there are a number of more pressing issues that the council and tourism industry need to address eg:

-The trains, buses and tubes work and run beyond midnight

-There are clean and numerous facilties such as toilets in London

-The pubs, clubs and other night spots are open for trade late into the night

-Hotels don't rip people off with extortionate charges and lousy substandard rooms/service

In other words, London has to be made far more welcoming and tourist friendly than it currently is.

Toilets

One aspect of the forthcoming Olympics to be held in Beijing later this year that has received scant attention, up until now, is that of toilets.

China is now rushing to install Western sit-down toilets for the expected 500,000 foreign Olympics visitors, having been prodded into action by complaints about Asian-style squat toilets.

Yao Hui, deputy head of venue management, said:

"A lot of parties have raised the question of toilets... We have told the venues to improve on this.

Most of the Chinese people are used to the squat toilet, but nowadays more and more people demand sit-down toilets.

However, it will take some time for this transition
