US Diplomats Boycott 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing

US diplomats are to boycott the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The White House said no official U.S. delegation would be sent to the Games because of concerns about China’s human rights record, and “ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang.” U.S. athletes however have the government’s full support to attend the Games. BBC News reports.

China has threatened President Biden’s administration with retaliation over the diplomatic boycott and has warned that the move could harm bilateral relations.

“The wrong move of the U.S. has undermined the foundation and atmosphere for China-U.S. sports exchanges and Olympic cooperation. It has shot itself in the foot. The U.S. should understand the grave consequences of its move,”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian told a news conference. Zhao also said that China had made “solemn representation” to the U.S. and vowed to take “resolute countermeasures.” Nectar Gan reports for CNN.

The Peace Olympics and The Road To War

Neither North Korea nor The USA are taking the current lull in provocations, to allow the Olympics to take place, seriously.

The North will hold a massive military parade on the 8th of February (the day before the Winter Olympics are opened)designed to scare the shit out of everyone.
Meanwhile the USA has just pulled its much touted choice for ambassador to South Korea, Victor Cha. The announcement took many by surprise, as Cha had passed all the security clearances and had been nodded in by the South.

Why was he booted from the role?

It seems that despite being regarded by many as a hawk, when he was asked if he would manage the evacuation of American citizens from South Korea he balked at the idea of the much touted "bloody nose" attack on the North.

I shall leave you all ponder the question who will evacuate the South Koreans from the South and the Japanese from Japan, in the event that things get out of hand.

However, be in no doubt, if the Olympics do take place without incident there is going to be one hell of a punch up afterwards. That is, sadly, very clear!

South Korea Not As Stupid As The USA Would Have Us Believe

There are two glaring ironies within this current lull in inter Korean hostilities:

1 North Korea has effectively stolen the Olympics show from the South.

2 The USA and its various media/social network/"expert" mouthpieces are pushing the narrative that peace is dangerous for the ROK/USA alliance.

Funny old world isn't it?

The Great Olympic Doping Scandal

With calls by WADA to ban Russian athletes from the 2016 Olympics, because of widespread doping of their athletes in the 2012 Olympics, Russia has responded that it followed the norms.

Whatever the truth or otherwise of this, it ought to be remembered that the calls for banning Russia come at a time when the USA and Russia are squaring up to each other in the Middle East and in Ukraine. The USA has sought to isolate Russia diplomatically and financially from global affairs, yet has thus far failed.

A cynic might opine that this is but the latest attempt by the USA, albeit by the backdoor, to bring Russia to heel. After all, it's not as though Russia is the only country that has doped athletes and sportsmen!

Mitt Romney Restores The Special Relationship

Mitt Romney, the Republican presidential nominee, on a visit to London to restore "Anglo-Saxon understanding to the special relationship" decided to have a dig at the Olympics.

The Telegraph reports that he told US television there were "disconcerting" signs about Britain's readiness:
"It's hard to know just how well it will turn out.

There are a few things that were disconcerting: the stories about the private security firm not having enough people, supposed strike of the immigration and customs officials, that obviously is not something which is encouraging."
Yes, that will help "restore understanding!
