Olympic Weather Forecast

The Met Office will be providing weather forecasts etc for the London 2012 Olympics.

The forecasts will start from now, and will cover all of the 2012 venues; they are intended to help to give an up-to-date overview of the "micro-climate" at each competition and training venue.

This from the organisation that told us were in for a "barbecue" Summer!

ROFLOL!

Here's my forecast, it will either be "hot for the time of year" or "what ghastly weather!"

I guarantee that the Met Office will be unable to surpass that for accuracy!

It Hardly Ever Rains! II

Re my earlier article about claims by those who should know better that hardly ever rains in London:

"Mayor of London Boris Johnson claimed it was dry 94% of the time.

Olympic minister Tessa Jowell said: "In the unlikely event that, at some point it rains, people are used to pulling on raincoats in this country."

Maybe they should take a look at the London Olympics webcam?

It Hardly Ever Rains!

London 2012 leaders claim it does not matter that the Olympic Stadium roof does not cover everyone - because it hardly ever rains in the capital.

Only 40% of the stadium will be under cover but Mayor of London Boris Johnson claimed it was dry 94% of the time.

Blue Skies

Contrary to the expectations of some people before the games, the air quality in Beijing has actually been reasonably good thanks to the anti pollution measures taken by the authorities and a heavy storm that blew it away.

The skies above Beijing are currently clear and blue.

International Olympic Committee's medical commission chairman, Arne Ljungqvist, said:

"The information so far is very encouraging. The recent... days have had very good air conditions indeed.

There is no indication that there will be a problem in the near future."

However, World Health Organisation China chief Hans Troedsson noted that pollution in Beijing still presented long-term health risks to residents.

Beijing Air Clearing

As the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics approaches, organisers have been anxiously monitoring air pollution levels in and around Beijing hoping for the air to clear and the traditional summer smog to lift.

It would seem their prayers are being answered, wind and rain has helped clear Beijing's air and all are keeping their fingers crossed for the start of the games on the 8th of August.

The recent haze was the worst seen in Beijing in the past month, this in spite of the fact that over 1 million cars have been pulled off the road and work on construction sites has been stopped.

Du Shaozhong, deputy director of the Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau, told reporters that Beijing could institute emergency measures if air pollution worsens during the games, and said a contingency plan was already in place.

The National Meteorological Center said that rain is forecast for the next few days in Beijing.

Olympic Heatwave

It is forecast that Beijing will suffer from a major heatwave next year, during the 2008 Olympics.

Beijing is currently experiencing the worst heatwave in 50 years, it was 37 degree Celsius on Saturday.

China decided to move the start of the 2008 Olympics from late July to August 8, because data indicated that there was less chance of rain then.

The competitors and spectators may end up regretting that decision.
