Drips Off The Old Block

Mascots
The London Olympics mascots, Wenlock and Mandeville (named after two English towns), were unveiled yesterday.

True to form, in keeping with these games, they represent nothing on earth.

The only element that could be claimed to be symbolic of Britain is the single "camera lens" eye that each creature has, representing the excessive level of surveillance that the people of Britain are subjected to by the government and other bodies.

  1. Worse than the silly logo.....Why must everything we do in this country be child focused all the time....These things look stupid and childish....Mind you, it does sum up our nation I suppose.....I had exactly the same thought about the all seeing, all recording eye.....These are by far the worst mascots I have ever seen, is it the official's intent to make us look even more ridiculous than we all ready do on the international stage?....Just a thought for t'committee; Why not use a Beefeater mascot....Nothing is more representitive of London and more British than a Beefeater.

  2. @Tonk .. I agree, and the reason we probably don't use a Beefeater is that Nanny would see that as "combative", and "promoting agression".
